Chairman’s Message
Tokyo must be considered one of the premier gourmet capitals of the world, thanks to the superb ingredients gathered from all corners of Japan and subtle yet advanced skills of its chefs. The culinary culture centered here in Japan reflects the quality and technique level beyond that of the rest of the world in all aspects; chefs, consumers, ingredients, environment, hospitality and style. Tokyo truly deserves to showcase its brilliance and potential to the entire world.
Japan Restaurant Week is a gourmet festival intended to allow as many people as possible to enjoy the wonders of a diverse range of fine cuisine, to make Japan's proud culinary culture known to the world as well as to provide opportunities for consumers to understand, embrace and appreciate its culinary culture in entirety.
It is my personal hope that Japan Restaurant Week will bring together people and places through the creation and communication of Japanese dining culture. I wish everyone makes the most of this opportunity to visit restaurants and experience at first hand the wonders that can be found in gourmet dining experience.Japan Restaurant Week Committee

The history of credit card and Diners Club began 60 years ago in a New York restaurant by accident. Businessman Frank McNamara had dinner and realized he left his wallet in another suit. Luckily, his wife came to his rescue and paid the tab. He resolved to never face such embarrassment again. It is how Diners Club, club of diners who pay on their own credit without cash at restaurants, was born and marked the launch of the world’s first credit card.
Diners Club celebrates 50th anniversary this year as the first credit card launched in Japan. As a leading Travel & Entertainment card, Diners Club’s comprehensive service offering continues to be inspired by the very same principles since being founded in 1960: to provide customers with unique privileges and to help them live their lives to the fullest through our exclusive benefits—whether in restaurants, travels, cultural events or prestigious golf courses.
In this memorial and milestone year, Diners Club is going back to our roots and focusing especially on dining. Gourmet is a key pillar for Diners Club, and the goal is to offer the best-in-class dining privileges and services. For example, Diners Club Signless Style provides Diners Club's affluent card members with a smart solution to settle transactions without signing a bill at restaurant—providing them with status beyond any premium card. Diners Club Executive Dining enables companion to dine for free at participating restaurants, including Michelin star winners. Diners Club Café Lounge Service brings concept of first class airport lounge to the middle of central shopping districts and offers exclusive welcome drink service at upscale cafes and lounges year round. And this summer, a new service called Dining Cash Back will be launched and provides up to 20% cash back on spend at over 600 restaurants across Japan. These and other benefits come exclusively with Diners Club membership.
This sponsorship of Japan Restaurant Week is a testament to Diners Club’s continuous commitment to provide our customers with the richest and most exclusive lifestyle experience in Japan.
